We are in Chong Aryk Village!
So...Nanooki and I are in Chong Aryk Village just outside of Bishkek city. I am turning 29 years old today. I asked my family for a Napoleon birthday cake. Will take pictures.
We've had a very safe and pleasant journey. At the airport, Lufthansa people said that Nanooki is their passenger too, and that we need to get a new dog crate because the one we had was too small. He ended up travelling in a palatial residence that could've fit two German shepherds. He is a real hero dog and the first Shiba Inu passenger to travel to Central Asia.
When we got off the plane in Almaty, Kazakhstan where we flew becuase tickets are cheaper and because flight time is shorter, all these people surrounded Nanooki to look at him. He was very popular.
Almaty airport was an experience in its own right. We landed a little past midnight and all these trendy Kazakh people emmerged from the airplane in head to toe Gucci and a few had their sunglasses on!
We then drove for three hours to go from Almaty, Kazakhstan to Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. We crossed the border where we ended up paying the border patrol 200 Soms becuase we didn't have some kind of "fictitious document," then we were stopped a couple of times by cops who wanted easy bribes. One of the cops turned out to be from the same area as my family - he gracefully let us now that because we're from the same area we don't need to bribe him. Nice!
I have already gone to the main market today to buy fruits. And even bought a couple of banchan- like dishes that are called "Korean salads" here. Our orchard has trees with delicious plums and ripening apples. Will take pictures of both. Just need to get over jetlag and become a human being again first.
Akiko, thanks for the coffee! I guess real coffee, not the instant kind is one of the most expensive foods here.
My nephew, Lorin gave me a DVD of Cache by Michael Hanneke (one of my favorite movies) and the cutest birthday card of a girl hugging all kinds of little animals.
