Nanooki Update

Posted by Picasa Nanooks and I are finally getting used to our new surroundings. Most of the time it's too hot to venture out, but I did make it out once with an elementary school friend and her kid. It's a really comforting feeling to see someone you know since childhood.

Bishkek city is quite pleasant, green, and sleepy. It's really dusty and provincial in the best of ways, although a new Turkish shopping mall, and a few lounge-type bars have opened up.

The main difference that I have noticed is the big Chinese presence. When my mother and I went to Dordoi wholesale market, most of the products on sale are from China, and a lot of sales people too. A few Chinese food stores have opened up too that mostly carry dried goods like shitake mushrooms, sea weed, and condiments; which is perfect for my cooking needs!

I also went to a local dentist here, Olga Kim who is a summer school alum. She must be by far the best dentist I have ever encountered. If you are in Bishkek and you need a referral, let me know. My teeth look great after ultrasound cleaning, and all for 10$.

Nanooki is becoming a spoiled little dog. His life is basicall the same as it was in New York, except now he has a huge garden, a friend, and many more people to pet him.
